This is a beautiful Victorian Jackfield  jug. This type of ware is known as Black Jackfield - it has a black glaze over a red clay body.  Most of the pieces referred to as Jackfield today are black-glazed, red-clay wares made at the Jackfield Pottery in Shropshire, England, in Victorian times. 

This is a 3 cup capacity jug.

The jug is in very good condition.
